Let's go BIKEPACKING!

We are offering three bikepacking trips this year. They will be lead by Andrew. If you know Andrew, you know he'll have at least 3 stoves with him and his trusty sock / oven mitt / coffee filter.

Trips are limited to 10 people. Be sure to purchase your place in the group early as the trips will fill up fast.

Look to the right for the details of each event.

Come join Andrew on the first bikepacking trip to the Big Sioux Rec area!!!

We'll depart from Spoke-N-Sport and ride the bike trail north to Ditch road, make a stop at the Renner Corner for some grilling' meats, then we'll ride to the Big Sioux Rec area via gravel roads.

Sunday morning we'll ride back to Sioux Falls and should be back to Spoke-N-Sport at noon.

In total, we'll ride about 20 miles each way at a relaxed touring pace -- 10-12 miles per hour. We'll have time to take stops, get photos, and travel as a group.

Andrew is also hosting a pre-ride meet up to review the route, camping, and logistics:  FACEBOOK EVENT

What do I need to go bikepacking?

1. Bike - stout tires for gravel, comfortable for all-day riding, in good working order, helmet
2. Water and food - on-bike and camping
3. Camping gear - tent, sleeping bag, personal kit, camp stove(s), clothes, etc
4. Money for food and snacks at the Renner Corner; we may also stop for a 2nd breakfast for in Brandon or east SF. $20 should work just fine
5. A sense of humor and a story to tell over the camp fire

Registration is $10 and will cover camp site, fire wood, sag on call durning SnS business hours, and a few goodies.

Go bikepacking with Andrew to Palisades State Park!!!

We'll depart from Spoke-N-Sport and ride the bike trail north to Ditch road, then make a usual stop at the Renner Corner for dinner supplies, hot dogs, and random foodstuffs. Next we'll ride east on gravel to Palisades State Park where we'll camp the night.

Sunday morning we'll ride back to Sioux Falls and should be back to Spoke-N-Sport early afternoon. Andrew always recommends a 2nd breakfast (brunch, elevenses, 1st lunch), so we'll make a slight detour to Garretson before returning to Sioux Falls.

This trip is a bit longer than the last trip. 25 miles each way, for a weekend total of about 50 miles. We'll be riding at a usual gravel touring pace 10-12 miles per hour and of course we'll have time for photos, quick breaks, sight seeing.

Bikepack Blue Mounds State Park with Andrew leading the way on his trusty Fargo.

We'll depart from Spoke-N-Sport riding east towards Brandon, where we'll cross the state line and ride into Minnesota. Along the way, we'll explore a rambling gravel route that will let us explore western Minnesota prairie.

Sunday morning we'll ride back to Sioux Falls and should be back to Spoke-N-Sport late afternoon. Andrew always recommends a 2nd breakfast (or 1st lunch), so we'll make a quick stop in Luvern and get a breakfast depending on schedule (we have options: fast and quick or sit down and enjoy) before returning to Sioux Falls.

This trip is a even longer than the last trip. The route is about miles each way, for a weekend total of about 85 miles. We'll be riding at a usual gravel touring pace 10-12 miles per hour and of course we'll have time for photos, rest stops, sight seeing. In addition, we'll have a stop planned for Beaver Creek on the way and return trip back to Sioux Falls.

Blue Mounds does not have functional showers & sinks due to an E. Coli outbreak a few years ago. Water is available at the ranger station. Bringing multiple water bottles is recommended to keep enough water for drinking, cooking, and washing.
